Do you already know Potsdam's new museum?
In April the museum FLUXUS+ opened in the street Schiffbauergasse. With about 1000 m² permanent exhibition space, a big foyer with a café and art+life-shop as well as the "atrium", an area for variable events, it is a new cultural meeting point in Potsdam, directly at lake Tiefer See.
On two floors works from private collections are shown. On the first floor is a permanent exhibition, supplemented by audiovisual documentation, about the international and intermedial Fluxus-movement, which was affected by Wolf Vostell, Emmett Williams, Ben Patterson, Nam June Paik among other artists in the 60’s. Works of contemporaries and friends like Arman, Lebel, Christo, Niki de St. Phalle, Hains, Leve, Ann Noël and many more complete the picture of vanguard in the second half of the 20th century.
On the second floor a cross section of Wolf Vostell's lifework is shown. Not the expansive grand works but smaller works, which also reflect Vostell's complete spectrum themed "Life is art. Art is life.". The collection ranges from works of the adolescent Vostell to one of the very last creations shortly before his early death. It includes the Fluxus- and Happening-artist, designer, sculptor, composer, painter and video-pioneer.
To allow the view on nowadays' interpretation of the maxim "Art is life" each of four contemporary artists expose their works in a room of the FLUXUS+ museum. Works of Costantino Ciervo, Hella De Santarossa, Lutz Friedel and Sebastian Heiner are shown there.
