A good place to start is the Main Tower (200m tall), which provides a great view. From its public viewing platform you can overlook the whole town and surroundings, such as the Taunus area. You might discover highlights like the Dom, which was Frankfurt's highest building in the 50's.

On a sightseeing tour you shouldn't miss the historic center of Frankfurt Main. Before World War II it had a nice Old Town with more than 2000 half timbered houses but about 80 percent were destroyed by Allied bombing raids in March 1944.
So to the major attractions of Frankfurt belongs the square Römerberg with its originally restored houses, among them the Römer, the historic Town Hall.

In the Middle Ages the Römer was the site of celebrations of the election and coronation of emperors. Nowadays the Römer square draws thousands of people for special events, e.g. the christmas market.
Nearby is also the church Paulskirche, symbol of German democracy, because here the National Assembly set up the first democratic German constitution in 1848.
