Museum Wurzburg - Mainfränkisches Museum Wurzburg
The Mainfraenkisches Museum Wuerzburg, is one of the most frequented art museums in Bavaria.
Its historical art and cultural collections comprise the witnesses to human culture in Franconia from prehistory down to the 19th century.
Unlike many other museum collections, the Mainfraenkisches Museum has most of its stock on display. The stores contain comparatively little, for much was completely destroyed in 1945. In many cases, the objects which were recovered from the ruins of the old museum building in the town are no longer fit to be exhibited.
Along with numerous works of art, the entire "museum inventory" was also destroyed in 1945, that is, the index listing the museum stocks. This is why even today there is some uncertainty about the original museum stocks.
We show prehistory and early history, paintings from 17th to the middle of the 19th century, graphics of Wuerzburg and Franconia, sculptures, arts and crafts and much more.
